Teaching Faculty
Providence Christian School teachers have a high
level of professionalism and are committed to individualized instruction.
All are Washington
State Certified and are consistently engaged in meaningful,
job-embedded professional development.
Providence Christian’s administrator is Jeanie
Engelland,
a certificated and experienced school principal, she was named
the Washington State National Distinguished Elementary Principal
in 2000.
Basic teaching principles of the Providence
teaching faculty:
All children can achieve at high levels when school and
home work in partnership to assure an excellent teaching/learning
environment.
Small class size does not automatically assure educational
excellence; excellent teaching leads to excellent student
achievement. Providence
is developing a professional and high quality learning
community
focusing on children and guided by God.
Curriculum Materials
Our curriculum tools and resources are aligned with, but not
limited to, district and state learning benchmarks and standards.
Providence selects curriculum materials with the Washington State
Essential Academic Learning Requirements, also known as the (EALRs)
in mind. It is our goal to exceed all Washington State (EARLs)
and find the best curriculum materials and tools while focusing
on the fact that each classroom is a family of diverse learners.
We recognize each child’s unique individuality and will strive
to inspire each to reach full potential. A Curriculum Core Team
which includes parents and staff members meets regularly with the
principal to review and recommend curriculum tools which support
our school vision, mission and goals.
Our unique and comprehensive Curriculum Guide, created through an ongoing process of research and evaluation, integrates the core values and foundational beliefs of Providence as well as the Washington State Learning Standards and Benchmarks. Providing the foundation for teacher planning and instruction, it also informs and assures parents of the content and quality of instruction. Included in our one-of-a-kind guide are an overview of the core areas of study at each grade level, a list of primary objectives, and the primary texts and materials used for each subject area including reading, language/writing, handwriting, math, Latin (grades 2 and above), Bible, social studies/geography/history, science, chapel, art, physical education, and music/drama. |
